  1. Theodora Konetsovska ’97: Keep Your Accent and Your Last Name!

June 14, 2018 by American College of Sofia

Be brave. When you wonder if to do or not, do. If you question whether to go or not, go. When you hesitate if you should speak up or not, speak. Explore, jump in, have an opinion, disagree, defend your beliefs. Now is the time to challenge, experiment, figure out where you stand and where you want to go.

  2. ACS Trustees Ann Ferren and Avis Bohlen – Two Harvard-Radcliffe Alumnae at Lamont

March 8, 2018 by American College of Sofia

Harvard in those years was definitely the richer, more privileged institution; Radcliffe the poor relation. The boys’ accommodations in the Harvard houses were much nicer and more spacious than our shoe-box rooms in the Radcliffe dorms. We had to wait on tables and clean our own rooms; no work was required of the boys.

  3. Trayan Trayanov ’01: Those So-Called ACS People

May 31, 2017 by American College of Sofia

ACS encourages this kind of self-discovery and exploration, but it also changes you at a deeper level – the way you view yourself, your place in the world, and your relationship to others around you. The College nurtures academic prowess, to be sure. But, the special value of the ACS experience is not fully captured by GPA scores, university admissions successes or academic contests won. It is in the ways that ACS graduates think about themselves, care about the complexities of the global condition, and embrace their responsibility to do their part to make the world a little better place.

  6. Lisa Kostova ’97: Giving Back

January 21, 2016 by American College of Sofia

None of us would be sitting here if it wasn’t for Professor Black who walked miles in the snow during the years of WWII just so he could withdraw money to keep the College open. Or without the trustees who for 50 dark years held out hope and kept the American College funds intac. Or without the courageous and idealistic teachers who came to Bulgaria in 1992 led by Dr. Whitaker and with their own hands rebuilt this building behind you.
