  1. ACS Trustees Ann Ferren and Avis Bohlen – Two Harvard-Radcliffe Alumnae at Lamont

March 8, 2018 by American College of Sofia

Harvard in those years was definitely the richer, more privileged institution; Radcliffe the poor relation. The boys’ accommodations in the Harvard houses were much nicer and more spacious than our shoe-box rooms in the Radcliffe dorms. We had to wait on tables and clean our own rooms; no work was required of the boys.

  2. Георги Шопов – пазителят на историята на рода Чакалови

February 19, 2018 by American College of Sofia

„Някои нравствени категории бяха много по-задължителни за учениците от колежа, отколкото за връстниците им от другите училища на страната. Нека вземем за пример така нареченото преписване по време на класни писмени упражнения и изпити. За нашите американски учители дори името на това явление беше друго: наричаха го не „copy”, a „cheat”  т. е. „измама“. Нещо повече: наказанието за таква простъпка беше автоматично изключване от колежа. Подобна измама се считаше за непростимо престъпление, което не можеше да се търпи в никаква степен.”

Ivo sought out and treasured the inner light in the hearts and minds of everyone around him.

  4. Maria Grozdanova ’18: Happiness Is Perfect in Its Own Way

December 20, 2017 by American College of Sofia

At the beginning of 8th grade, I thought Not a single chance for me, a fresh new student here, to go and perform in front of everyone. None of my friends were going to join the group, so I thought Next year, maybe. But once I saw the BG Drama performance, I was so amazed by the work of the students, I clearly remember Matthew Loukanoff in the main part, I knew I was definitely going to join the year after that.

  5. Kosara Tsoneva ’17: Always on the Go

July 6, 2017 by American College of Sofia

I’m one of those people who are just energetic and like to be always on the go, who once that they’ve started with something, want to see it through. Breaks are needed, I take them sometimes, but I get pretty bored (laughing).

  6. Carl Djerassi, the Courageous

July 5, 2017 by American College of Sofia

Thinking outside the box is a prerequisite to a scientist of his caliber, but he set off to live outside the realm he had mastered, the realm he was recognized for. He set foot further than biochemistry, he ventured into entrepreneurship, into art, into public life. And here we want to pay tribute to his courage. Because in this pursuit of a different calling – and it was a public pursuit, – one’s very identity can be at stake.

  7. When Sanders Hall Was Art Central: Arts Fest’s Premiere in 1995

July 4, 2017 by American College of Sofia

The idea was to promote the College – to spread the word that it was being active in the city, to have its name heard more and more, and have it connected to the cultural life of Sofia. “It was an incredible idea, very much revolutionary,” Nia says. “And so I got on with it.”

  8. Slava Doytcheva ’07: Acting as Self-Revelation

July 3, 2017 by American College of Sofia

The thing about acting in its true sense, I think, is that you have to be very, very open to let things pass through you, to be willing to experience things, to be broken, to be exhilarated. You have to accept that you are a vehicle of emotions. It’s a high, an addiction actors feel. You want to feel, you want to experience things, you want to cry; it really is like a drug. You want more and more. So, to be pushed even beyond that, I think, is the dream of every actor.

  9. Trayan Trayanov ’01: Those So-Called ACS People

May 31, 2017 by American College of Sofia

ACS encourages this kind of self-discovery and exploration, but it also changes you at a deeper level – the way you view yourself, your place in the world, and your relationship to others around you. It’s not possible to just drift through this school. Rather, there is a slow-motion alchemical reaction that unfolds as you pass from grade to grade. You change fundamentally during your time here. ACS in turn permits itself to be changed by each one of its classes.

  10. Dimiter Lambrinov ’39: The College, My Home Away from Home

May 9, 2017 by American College of Sofia

I came to the American College after 4 years at the French College in Plovdiv. When I had a nightmare in Simeonovo, I dreamt of being back in Plovdiv. I couldn’t avoid comparing the two institutions all the time. Of course, it was always in favor of the American College.
