  1. Kosara Tsoneva ’17: Always on the Go

July 6, 2017 by American College of Sofia

I’m one of those people who are just energetic and like to be always on the go, who once that they’ve started with something, want to see it through. Breaks are needed, I take them sometimes, but I get pretty bored (laughing).

  2. Veronika Georgieva ’98: On Life in Japan

August 1, 2016 by American College of Sofia

The most beautiful places in Japan are the parks in March when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. Walking, surrounded by hundreds of white trees, watching the petals fall like snow and make a white carpet on the floor is the most beautiful scene I have seen here.

  3. Kathryn van Steyn: Live Simply and Passionately!

February 9, 2016 by American College of Sofia

Life should be all about fun. And some of the happiest people I’ve ever encountered were in a poor, small village in Nepal, so it is more of a state of being than anything else. I derive my happiness from the outdoors.

I distinctly remember a night. It must have been May in my senior year. The weather was great outside but we were sitting in preparing ourselves for the matriculation exams in the basement of today’s Science Building, I believe. There was a net on the window and whole waves of May-bugs were flying against the net. I still remember that sound and our longing to be outside in the splendid night with its dark sky and sparkling stars.

  5. Nora Pencheva ’05: On Finding a Fascinating Career Path

January 21, 2016 by American College of Sofia

At the Netherlands Cancer Institute, where the research unit is within the main hospital, I get to see cancer patients in the hallways every day and that makes it all feel very real. If anything, it gives me another level of motivation as well as the responsibility to keep working hard.

  6. Zhanina Boyadzhieva ’06: Beyond the ACS Campus

January 21, 2016 by American College of Sofia

I see ACS in three colors: green, blue and light beige. Green stands for all the lush gardens and parks which I have very vivid memories of. It transformed the space into a retreat for discoveries. Blue is for the open sky that was visible everywhere on campus. It made everyone aim high. Light beige is for the buildings which projected openness.

  7. Lisa Kostova ’97: Giving Back

January 21, 2016 by American College of Sofia

None of us would be sitting here if it wasn’t for Professor Black who walked miles in the snow during the years of WWII just so he could withdraw money to keep the College open. Or without the trustees who for 50 dark years held out hope and kept the American College funds intac. Or without the courageous and idealistic teachers who came to Bulgaria in 1992 led by Dr. Whitaker and with their own hands rebuilt this building behind you.
